Description
- Function: The primary function is to hold dental casts in a fixed, predetermined vertical and horizontal relationship to allow dentists and lab technicians to evaluate occlusion (bite), plan treatments for simple cases, and fabricate basic restorations outside the patient's mouth.
- Movement: It only allows for a single, fixed, hinge-like opening and closing motion around a horizontal axis. It does not simulate complex mandibular movements like lateral (side-to-side) or protrusive (forward) movements of the jaw.
- Application: Due to its simplicity, it is primarily used for simple restorative procedures like single crowns, some bridges, and denture repairs or relining where maximum tooth contact is the only required relationship. It is a cost-effective option widely used in dental schools for training.
- Limitations: The arc of movement on a hinge articulator is different from a patient's actual jaw because the hinge axis is closer to the teeth on the model than the actual temporomandibular joint (TMJ). This limitation means adjustments to the final restoration will often be needed chairside in the patient's mouth.
Specifications
Specifications can vary slightly depending on the manufacturer and whether the articulator is metal or plastic, but general features include:
- Material: Typically made from durable materials such as chrome-plated die-cast metal, stainless steel, brass, or high-quality plastic.
- Design: Features an upper and a lower member joined by a simple hinge mechanism. It often includes an adjustment screw to control the vertical occlusion height.
- Size: Available in different sizes (small, medium, large; high arch, low arch) to accommodate various cast sizes.
- Adjustability: Non-adjustable beyond the simple hinge and possibly a vertical stop screw. It does not accept a facebow transfer, which is used to relate the casts to the patient's actual TMJ axis in more complex articulators.
- Maintenance: Reusable, easy to clean, and often autoclavable or suitable for ultrasonic cleaning.
- Features: May include a spring installed in the center of the upper jaw to help return it to its original position, or a pin to hold the upper limb in an open position.

xReturns Policy
You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).
You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).
If you need to return an item, simply login to your account, view the order using the "Complete Orders" link under the My Account menu and click the Return Item(s) button. We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item.
Shipping
We can ship to virtually any address in the world. Note that there are restrictions on some products, and some products cannot be shipped to international destinations.

Please also note that the shipping rates for many items we sell are weight-based. The weight of any such item can be found on its detail page. To reflect the policies of the shipping companies we use, all weights will be rounded up to the next full pound.
